Being a mom is a 24 hour around the clock job, and adding on a natural hair journey to it does present some challenges at times. I am a mom of two toddlers, and my time is dedicated mostly to them. As you Youtifulistas know, managing our hair does take time, and requires dedication, especially if your goal is to grow long and healthy hair. We often do our hair late when we are tired after the kids have gone to sleep , or in a hurry very early in the morning before the kids wake up, or rushing out of the door for work, or take the kids to school.
I used to rely on flat ironing my hair because it was easier for me to style, manage, and most importantly it helped me keep my hands off my hair which gave me more time to focus on the children. We all have been warned of the dangers of heat for natural hair I know, and they are well warranted. Although my hair has not incurred much heat damages, I have noticed that I do tend to trim my ends more when it's flat ironed. Whenever I flat iron my hair I always end up cutting way much hair that I really need to, as opposed to when I have my hair naturally curly, and in protective style.
If your goal is to grow your hair very long, you should only trim when necessary. Two strand twists are my go to when I have my hair curly. Twists at night under my satin scarf or a satin pillow and styled in the day time on special occasions. Twist outs are perfect for moms on the go like me. Lets share together our experiences as being mommy and natural, and we all can learn together. Thank you.
